Aegisfields

Tranquil winds blow over the rolling hills, soft and silent like a thousand whispering voices. An azure sky stretches high above the lush green expanse; cotton white clouds cast rolling shadows as they quietly drift across the plains. A peaceful respite from the rest of Cier.

During the course of The Great Downfall, the Aegis fields witnessed one of the bloodiest conflicts known to history. Countless fables tell of warriors sacrificing their lives to stave off the oncoming darkness; martyrs amidst chaos, an Aegis forged from blood and valor. It is rumored the lost souls of the warriors still guard these forlorn fields. Specters from ages past wander the plains at night, preventing the advance of the Shadow Hold’s grasp.

Though the hundreds have fallen, their will lives on. Their banner is yours to carry.

Geography[]

Most of Aegis Fields are composed of sweeping flatlands and rolling hills as far as the eye can see. Lush grass paints the fields a rich shade green as the occasional treeline breaks the flat silhouette of the horizon. Calm weather pushes cool, coastal breezes into the mainland, causing the sea of grass to sway in rhythmic waves. The northern side of the fields are met with steeper hills and rocky outcrops as the land transitions to Neiran tundra. Meanwhile most of the southern areas continue to be flat and bordered by the dark treeline of the Dead Forest. Some say when the night falls, the grass loses its color and spirits of the fallen begin to wander the world once more.

Architecture[]

There are only a few modest settlements that can be found sparsely across the region. Most of the structures inland are composed of simple structures and basic wood cabins. Because of how vast the fields are, these man-made structures are so few and far between that most who tread these lands will rarely happen upon them. Smaller towns and fishing villages can also be seen scattered along the western coast where brave travelers start their journey to trek into the neighboring regions.

Technology / Wealth / RICE[]

With the lack of developed cities or civilizations there is no major concept of technology or wealth in the Aegis Fields. With such a large expanse of land to trek across, travelers must come well prepared and equipped for long, exhausting trips that may span the course of weeks on foot. Adventurers commonly run out of food and supplies during the long expeditions, resulting in survival off of the land and the small animals before reaching civilization.

The small port towns along the coast are simple in theme, mostly relying on simple tools and trade boats. The native people mainly focus on barter and trade coming to and from the east and west mainlands of Cier to make their living.

People and Culture[]

Although vast in size, the population of Aegis Fields is few in number. The scarce collections of people who live here are either small groups of natives living in settlements, trade caravans, or lone wanderers passing through. Because of the sparse population and lack of laws and territories, the fields are a common ground for fighters to spar and test their skills. Tales of the great battle that once took place during the Downfall are still told amongst the travelers and common folk, often discussed and regaled over the tables of taverns and tankards of ale. Some have oft claimed to recognize the faces of the specters that wander the night, but are unable to place a name. Others say they feel a connection to some of the long dead warriors, the details of which are often hard to describe.

Government/Religion[]

There is no centralized government, and while the religious beliefs differ depending on the settlement, the majority of people loosely follow Seraphism. In most cases the Aegis Fields are considered “neutral grounds” where territories are not owned but mostly treated as a buffer zone for trade routes.

History[]

During the ancient Kaihon era, the Aegis Fields was a territory under the Kaihon empire. However, this all changed when the Shadow Hold’s adverse reaction changed the ecology of the regions around it, disallowing Kaihon to maintain control of the region. For a short while afterwards, several minor kingdoms opted to take advantage of the powergap that Kaihon’s withdrawal left behind, however most failed to maintain the vastness of the fields under one kingdom, and nearly all faded out of existence as a result. When the larger powers of the west expanded outwards in a land grab, Aegis fell under control of, and became a colony of Highgate. However, Aegis Fields and many other regions were granted independence from western colonies when the New Cierian Alliance was founded. Aegis fields was a minor ally in the Cierian War, namely on the pro-cultivist side, and aided in transporting Neirian soldiers to West Cier.
