This page will be exploring enchanted RICE in Cier, and does not refer to the other types of rice.
RICE is an extremely rare resource in Cier, bringing immense power to anyone who has the ability and knowledge to harness its energy.
Introduction
RICE is a resource that can only be grown in Bahp, and carries great power and magical energy. Because of its rarity, a single grain has enough worth to allow one to live comfortably for years. Official duelists will train for many years to participate in tournaments to earn these grains in an attempt to empower themselves and strengthen the region that they represent.
Purpose
The most common use for RICE is not for power, but for trade. A government’s worth is often measured by the amount of RICE their state or country holds, at least within the Alliance. It falls on the Dojo to fairly distribute this RICE and safeguard the entirety of Cier from falling into another war, or worse yet, bringing another downfall upon the land.
It can be said ‘those who control the flow of rice control the flow of power’. Even if the Dojo seeks to distribute the rice evenly, it is not uncommon for a few grains to ‘mysteriously vanish’ from a shipment as it moves from distributor to distributor. By the time these shipments reach certain areas, they are often so negligible they only strengthen the poverty of the region.
In desperate times, one can consume the enchanted grains. A single grain of RICE is said to sustain a man for weeks, but the RICE’s true magical potential can only be unlocked through special refinement methods.
Utilities
RICE is a versatile resource, and as such has found a variety of uses throughout Cier. In general, RICE acts as a powerful source of both magical and conventional energy, where it can be used to power a wide range of technologies; as a fuel source for generators, as a battery for even more complex machines, and as a source of mana for the magically inclined. However, even with its immense versatility as a power source, not all Cierians make use of it.
But beyond its use as a power source, RICE can be applied in many, more specialized ways. It can be refined into materials to enhance their properties (strength, resistances), and imbued within items to grant a variety of powers (magic wands, fire swords, etc). Those capable of harnessing magic can also use RICE to empower their magic, or even unlock one’s latent magical abilities.
RICE may also be ingested, just like any other grain. When refined with other ingredients, RICE can be used to create magical potions with a variety of effects. Additionally, the RICE itself can be simply consumed raw, filling one’s stomach and providing energy for roughly 3 weeks with a single grain. However, doing so will not grant one any magical properties or abilities.
While these are the known uses, there are said to be numerous uses yet to be discovered.
History
Long ago during ancient times, there was a calamitous war between two powerful races: the Somnians and the Seraphs. With the Seraphs came RICE, a renewable source of super-energy created to power their weapons and magic; its usage brought the Somnians to the brink. After many years of war, a violent climax caused the disappearance of both races, but neither foresaw the impact RICE would bring to Cier in their absence.
After the ancient war, this RICE was controlled by the Great Dojo who came into power and ruled Cier for centuries, thus known as the Great Dojo Era. Disrupting this era of peace, evil Shadow-spawns from the Shadow Hold infiltrated the Great Dojo using their own RICE to cause the downfall. In a desperate attempt to stop the Shadow, the surviving Dojo elders dispersed the last bit of enchanted RICE across Cier, reshaping and changing the very environment. Lands transformed from lush grasslands into arid desert, or tropical paradise into volcanic nightmare. In the end, RICE is bound to shape Cier history for the future to come.
